Advice is available on good school snacks and lunches

A recent survey by the Heart and Stroke Foundation finds a large majority of parents feel it’s very important that their children eat healthy snacks and lunches every day even at school but they need help with ideas.  Northern outreach manager Amanda Nash says they have launched a campaign called Time to Start offering advice including using the food guide. She says the food groups include fruit and vegetables, grain products, milk and alternatives and meat and alternatives and if your lunches have three to four of those food groups and your snacks have two of those food groups with the majority of food coming from food that actually fits with one of those groups then you know you’re on the right track.

Their web site www.healthcheck.org includes a three week meal plan with connections to the recipes plus a chance to win prizes.
