There Is A Shortage Of Personal Home Care Beds In The North

Katy Anderson was at last night’s City Council meeting to make a presentation on behalf of the North regarding personal care home beds for the entire Northern Region.

The Provincial Government has allocated 15 million dollars  for personal care homes across the province but has excluded Northern Manitoba and Anderson says this is not acceptable.

" Out of all these beds, the four Southern authorities got promises of close to 1000 beds and the North got absolutely zero. zero promises and nothing at all. I am an advocate for the North  , I want to speak for the North, I just don't want to complain, I want action. This is a start and I went to our senior executive on Friday morning and they gave 100 percent support to address this issue by going  to council and senior's centers. We need to get out the word because a lot of people haven't heard about this."

The City Of Flin Flon has agreed to send out a letter of support and Anderson says they will also be contacting other local leaders, MLA’S, and a petition is also being put together to go out to all the centers in the North including The Pas, Snow Lake, Thompson and First Nations communities.
