Tom Lindsay Wants To See More Initial Attack Fire Fighters In The North

With the record number of fires that are decimating Canada this summer, local       MLA Tom Lindsay is concerned that if a situation were to arise in Northern Manitoba we wouldn’t have the resources to fight a serious fire.

" Once upon a time there used to be more intial attack fire fighters in these smaller communities. The first hint of a fire they could be out there right away and get these under control. Now, they have done away with them in places like Sheriden and Cranberry Portage. So, they now have to come from Snow Lake and it takes longer to get there , so the fire gets bigger and more out of control before anyone gets there. I've suggested to the Minister to hire these people and make them full time jobs. Let's get the people properly trained and get them the right equipment and then they can do other things in between like maintain fire guards which are now getting over grown."

Lindsay will be busy on the campaign trail as he will head to Marcel Colomb First Nation tomorrow  for the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Alomas Gold. He will be back in the Flin Flon office on Thursday. If you need to reach him call 204-687-3246.
