Assistance is available for people planning a business

Oswald Sawh, Chief Executive Officer with the Community Economic Development Fund told the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce yesterday the Fund is set up to encourage the economic development of northern Manitoba, aboriginal people outside of Winnipeg and the fishing industry in Manitoba. He says they provide loans for business, loans for commercial fishermen and provide community programs.  He adds they have one staff person who goes into a lot of smaller communities, works with the CEDCs, with many of the CFDCs and with the Mayors and Council.  His role mostly is helping in regards to community based projects and he will help out a person who wants to try and develop a business plan.

             

Sawh says since the Fund started in 1972 they have provided 177 million dollars in development loans.  Their head office is located in Thompson.
