A proposed increase in the cost to stay local hotels was one topic at the Flin Flon City Council meeting

Council approved on first reading the creation of a five percent accommodation tax for hotel stays in Flin Flon.  Councilor Tim Babcock said the money will be used for community promotion and enhancement but an exact definition of what that will include has not been determined.  The bylaw requires two more readings before passing.

Council received the Fire Chiefs report for May indicating 13 calls during the month.  Councilor Ken Pawlachuk says there are again concerns about the false alarms being sent in by recently installed alarm systems. If this continues he said they will look at initiating fines due to the cost of responding to the calls.

Council agreed to help out the Flinty Committee by subsidizing the cost of lighting for the Boardwalk for the summer at a cost of two thousand dollars.

Mayor George Fontaine said they are still waiting for word on approval of payment of fire service costs requested by the City for the cottage areas.  He said Council has advised the cottage owners that if the payment plan is not approved service will be cut off as of July 1st.
