Their Budget and COVID Testing Were Part of the Flin Flon School Board Meeting Tuesday night.

The Flin Flon School Division public budget meeting is tentatively scheduled for February 23rd.  This date is subject to change as the Division still does not have their funding announcement.  Board Chair Leslie Fernandes mentioned that in 2016 the province’s share was 61.5 percent while in 2021 it was down to 58.2 percent.  School Divisions are rightfully worried as education funding impacts students directly. You can email your feedback to budget2022@gov.mb.ca before January 31st.  When asked what the Division would like to see in this year’s budget without being specific as there would be lots on the list her quick response was an increase in funds.  The Division is hoping for a good budget and then take it from there.

Superintendant Tammy Ballantyne asked all parents to let their children’s school know if they tested positive for COVID as this helps the Division to have an accurate representation of the number of cases they have in the schools.  This information will help the Division make decisions going forward.  Should the Division move to remote learning due to staffing shortages they will make every effort to let families know as early as possible.  The Division continues to do the best they can with what they have and are hoping they don’t have to go there.
