The Province is Increasing Nurse Training Seats in the North.

The Manitoba government is investing in 37 additional nurse training seats at three Campuses of University College of the North. The funding is for UCN’s Diploma in Practical Nursing Program which is offered in Thompson, Flin Flon and Swan River.  Their President and Vice-Chancellor Doug Lauvstad says this announcement helps address the staffing issues facing the northern health care system.  He notes the north is challenged in terms of recruitment and retention of professionals particularly health professionals and he thinks everyone of us can attest if you teach people in the north with an institution that’s in the north for jobs in the north they will stay in the north.

The investment is worth 4.3 million dollars and will enable UCN to invest in equipment, classroom renovations and instructors to support the additional seats.
