Its National Teen Driver Safety Week.

During this week Manitoba Public Insurance is encouraging young drivers to evaluate their driving behaviours to ensure roadways in the province are safe to travel on.

Media Relations Coordinator with the crown company Brian Smiley states teen drivers are involved in a decent chunk of collisions on the road. He says over the last decade 2011 to 2020 teen drivers have been involved in 10 percent of fatal collisions.  He notes last year alone we had 78 fatalities in our province so teens would have been involved in ten percent of that and he thinks we all agree that is all too high and we also have injury collisions were teen drivers represented seven percent of those collisions.

Smiley says it’s imperative for parents and guardians to have conversations with their children about safe driving practices.
