A Regional Organization Continues to Support Business Ideas.

Community Futures Greenstone includes Flin Flon, Cranberry Portage, Snow Lake and Sherridon.  They have an eleven member Board made up of representatives from those communities with the mission to invest in the future of our region by fostering economic growth, innovation and diversification.

Manger Becky Cianflone reported to their annual meeting last night everyone has been impacted by COVID-19 but arguably the small business sector has been hardest hit.  She noted because their organization is small and well connected they were able to reach out to clients and quickly respond to their needs.  She said they became the administrator for the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund which provided loan dollars with a forgivable portion designed to support those businesses who could not access other supports.  She added the pandemic has demonstrated just how crucial small businesses are and the far reaching impact when they are unable to operate.  She stated Christmas season is just around the corner so let’s keep all of these hard learned lessons in mind before we log in to a multi-billion dollar e-commerce site because a thriving local economy is the best gift you can give your community.

Between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021 they provided 15 loans, offered 83 business advisory services, had 85 business training participants and in a typical month provided services to six business clients.
