New Case Numbers Continue to Climb in Southern Manitoba.

Manitoba public health reported 366 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified since Thursday bringing the five day test positivity rate to 2.7 percent.

Chief Public Health officer Dr Brent Roussin says this fourth wave is a concern but was expected.  He says we see what’s been happening in our neighbors to the west so we knew that we were certainly at risk of seeing that and we know that despite relatively high vaccine uptake province wide we know there were pockets of relatively low vaccinated individuals and that put us at risk for a fourth wave and we’re starting to see those trends eventualize now.

Of the 366 cases 150 are in Southern health and 108 in Winnipeg with much lower numbers in other regions including 25 in the Northern health region.  Of the total 60,294 reported cases 646 are active, 58,439 people have recovered and 77 are in hospital with 19 in intensive care.
