There Will be Additional Support for Indigenous Children at Childrens Hospital.

The Childrens Hospital Foundation of Manitoba states it is committed to ReconciliAction in child health through the creation and work of an Indigenous Advisory Circle to the Foundation.  They point out the legacy of residential schools profoundly affects Indigenous People in all spaces including health care and in Manitoba Indigenous children are three to five times more likely to be affected by several diseases or conditions that require long term care which means visiting the HSC Children’s Hospital for years.

As part of their journey the Foundation created the Indigenous Advisory Circle which reached out to Indigenous leaders to learn the best approach for engaging the Indigenous community and supporting reconciliation efforts which led to recruiting the Foundation’s first Indigenous Board member Rebecca Chartrand.  She went on to lead and help form the Advisory Circle to the Hospital’s Foundation which is a group of leaders from First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities across Manitoba who share their wisdom and counsel with the Foundation as it support culturally safe programming, resources and spaces in the hospital. You can support an Indigenous Healing Space at the Hospital at www.goodbear.ca/indigenoushealth.
