Preparations Are Underway for a Mine Closure in Flin Flon.

In Hudbay’s second quarter financial report President and CEO Peter Kukielski reported on Manitoba operations. He explained overall production in Manitoba in the second quarter was lower than the first quarter primarily as a result of COVID-19 related absences and interruptions at their Snow Lake and Flin Flon operations, a scheduled maintenance shutdown at Lalor and a temporary suspension of operations at Lalor at the end of June to investigate a fatal incident.

Kukielski added the Triple Seven Mine in Flin Flon is now within one year of closure and the focus continues to be mining out the remaining reserves by executing the mine production sequence and completing the necessary ground rehabilitation in order to access old working and remnant stopes. He said the mine and zinc plant will be closed and processing facilities will be put on care and maintenance. He also noted Huday has reached new three and a half year collective bargaining agreements with four of its six unions in Manitoba effective July 1st 2021 and continues its efforts to advance the collective bargaining process with the remaining two unions in Manitoba.
