An Executive Summary has been released by the FDC Regional Economic Development Commission of the results of the recent retirement housing needs study.  This was a joint initiative under the City of Flin Flon, Town of Creighton and Village of Denare Beach to gauge and quantify resident’s interests for seniors housing units in the region.  Eighty-eight residents participated in the survey with 91 percent conveying interest to retire in the Flin Flon region. In the summary Regional Economic Development Officer Brian Lin stated a notable number of survey residents are prepared to sign up for senior housing units particularly in the peak period from year 2021 to 2025 followed by another wave of interests towards year 2030.  He notes it is advisable that the region capitalize on these findings as an approach to retaining a portion of the current population as each respondent is generally attached to at least one or two dependants in the household which is also evident in the dominant preference for two bedrooms.  Lin concludes moving forward these findings will support the scouting of potential investors and developers followed by formalization of a development model tailoring a selected senior housing option.
