The total budget is just over 12.2 million dollars down from just over 12.6 million last year.  The mill rate for residential property increased slightly from 50.12 to 50.25 mills an increase of 0.13 mills and commercial went down 1.76 to 58.13 mills.  An example noted residential property pays taxes on 45 per cent of assessed value so a property with a total assessed value of 100 thousand dollars will see an increase in taxes of 193 dollars minus the provincial education property tax credit.  The special levy for police and fire services will be $419.33 per parcel up from $407.12.

The city budget for roads and streets is just under 1.4 million dollars largely for paving.  Other top items in capital spending are water and sewer maintenance 300 thousand, Aqua Centre feasibility 400 thousand, Whitney Forum 185 thousand, Community Hall accessibility 100 thousand and from the reserve fund 421 thousand for affordable housing.
