Recoveries in Manitoba have topped 53 thousand.

Manitoba Deputy Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Jazz Atwal announced 84 net new cases of COVID-19 this afternoon bringing the five day test positivity rate to 5.9 percent.  He also announced one new death in the Southern health region.  Of the new cases 53 are in Winnipeg with much lower numbers in other regions including eight in Northern health.  Of the total 55,777 reported cases 1635 are considered active and 53,007 people have recovered with 185 in hospital and 28 in intensive care as well as 12 in care outside the province. Atwal encourages people to continue to get vaccinated. He explains when people get vaccinated the community spread of the virus is reduced which means we’re generating fewer cases which means we’re generating fewer hospitalizations and fewer deaths.  He adds when we get vaccinated we’re protecting those around us, we’re protecting those who cannot get vaccinated for medical reasons and we also see weeks like this when restrictions are lifted and life gets to return to normal even just a little.

There are 11 active cases reported in the Flin Flon, Snow Lake, Cranberry Portage, Sherridon district.
