More Manitoban Can Get their Second Shot.

Manitoba has expanded eligibility for people wanting their second shot of COVID-19 vaccine to include anyone who received a first dose on or before May 10th.

Manitoba Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin announced 124 new cases of COVID-19 this afternoon bringing the five day test positivity rate to 10.7 percent.  He also announced two additional deaths with one each in the Winnipeg and Southern health regions. Of the new cases 80 were in the Winnipeg region with lower numbers in other regions including 14 in Northern health.  Roussin noted case numbers are headed in the right direction and vaccine numbers are increasing but hospital and ICU numbers remain high. He says we’re not seeing really any Manitobans that are vaccinated and protected being admitted to ICU so that’s that benefit of the vaccine and that’s why we want to continue increasing those first and second doses, that’s what’s going to lead up to that Manitoba summer we’re all expecting.

Of the total 54,481reported cases 3111 are active, 50,268 individuals have recovered and 271are in hospital with 60 in intensive care with 26 in care in other provinces.
