It’s time to enjoy all that summer has to offer so the Canadian Red Cross is reminding you about water safety this week. Their Swimming and Water Safety Representative Lynn Kolba explains how to choose the right flotation device. She says you have to be really careful about whether or not its Transport Canada approved so a life jacket that is Transport Canada approved will have that stamp in the inside flap or on the back of the PFD or life jacket so you really have to take time to read through that verbage to be sure you’re wearing the correct size and the correct weight so it’s going to support you in the water.
Kolba also says you should have a plan to keep an eye on children around water. Many water related fatalities occur with young children and the drownings are preventable if the dangers are understood. Visit www.redcross.ca to learn more about water safety.
