People Who Received AstraZenica Now Have a Choice.

Manitoba Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin announced 303 new case of COVID-19 this afternoon bringing the five day test positivity rate to 12.1 percent.  They also reported one death in the Interlake Eastern health region. Of the new cases 226 are in the Winnipeg Region with lower numbers in other regions including 13 in Northern health. He noted due to technical issues these numbers will be an undercount which they anticipate will result in an over count tomorrow.

The Medical Lead for the Vaccine Implementation Task Force Dr. Joss Reimer had news for people who received a first dose of AstraZenica vaccine. She says they’ve seen that changing products in between doses for about every other vaccine still results in good effectiveness and this means if you are someone who received a first dose of AstraZenica they’ll recommend that your second dose be with an mRNA vaccine either Pfizer or Moderna.

Reimer says it will be your turn when you meet provincial eligibility but  they recommend waiting eight weeks after your first dose of AstraZenica for the second shot and if AstraZenica is the only one available to you it is still a safe vaccine for the second dose.
