The Pas MLA Amanda Lathlins private members Bill 213 to support young victims of sexual assault in rural and Northern Manitoba has received royal assent.

She explains the bill is dedicated to children as when a child is sexually assaulted they have to be flown or driven to Winnipeg to have the sexual examination to be done. She says right now that is only done in Winnipeg because there needs to be training for nurses to conduct that sort of examination and this bill will ensure training will be provided.

The bill will also allow for sexual assault kits to be provided to Northern Manitoba youth.

Lathlin adds as a mother herself she is very grateful children in rural and Northern Manitoba will receive protection under this bill.
