Reported Cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba Have Topped 50 Thousand.

Manitoba Deputy Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Jazz Atwal announced 493 new cases of COVID-19 this afternoon bringing the five day test positivity rate to 12.5 percent.  He announced no new deaths.  Of the new cases 324 were in Winnipeg and 80 in Prairie Mountain with lower numbers in other regions including 25 in Northern Health.  Of the total 50,144 reported cases 4676 are considered active, 44,426 people have recovered and 312 are in hospital with 69 in intensive care. Active cases in the Flin Flon, Snow Lake, Cranberry Portage, Sherridon district remain at 31. Variants of concern identified now total 10,176 with 2687 being active.

Atwal says we need numbers to come down and our hospital situation to stabilize before a re-opening plan can be developed but that may come over the next few weeks.

People who have received their first dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine on or before April 3rd can now book their second dose appointment.
