New Cases Remain High in Manitoba while Saskatchewan Has Moved a Step Further in their Re-opening Plan.

Manitoba reported 1290 new cases of COVID-19 over the three day weekend bringing the five day test positivity rate to 14.3percent. They also reported seven additional deaths with five in Winnipeg region and two in Southern health.  Of the new cases Saturday and Sunday 659 were in Winnipeg and 120 in South Eastern with lower numbers in other regions including 56 in Northern health.  They provided no breakdown of cases for yesterday just the total numbers of reported cases at 48,798 with 5061 considered active, 42,693 people have recovered and 318 are in hospital with 74 in intensive care.  There are 27 active cases reported in the Flin Flon, Snow Lake, Cranberry Portage Sherridon district.

             

Saskatchewan public health reported 399 new cases over the three day weekend bringing the seven day average of new cases to 142.  They also reported three new deaths with two in South Central and one in South East.  Of the new cases 129 were in Saskatoon, 50 in Regina and 47 in Northwest with lower numbers in other zones including five in Far North East.  Of the total 45,709 reported cases 1537 are considered active, 43,645 people have recovered and 133 are in hospital with 28 in intensive care. 22 cases are active in the Far North East zone.  The province has reached the Step Two threshold on their Re-opening Roadmap with over 70 percent of residents 30 and older receiving their first dose of vaccine that means Step Two will begin on June 20th three weeks after Step One begins on May 30th.  Details on the Steps can be found at www.saskatchewan.ca/COVID19.
