Some Adjustments Are Being Made to Vaccines in Manitoba.

Manitoba public health reported 364 new cases of COVID-19 this afternoon bringing the five day test positivity rate to 12.1 percent.  They also reported three additional deaths with one each in Prairie Mountain, Winnipeg and Interlake Eastern health regions. Of the new cases 223 are in the Winnipeg region with much lower numbers in other regions including ten in Northern health.

Health officials are adjusting the distribution of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine with first doses at medical clinics and pharmacies only being given to people who might not otherwise be immunized at other sites with most doses being held for second doses for people who received that vaccine as their first dose. Vaccine Lead Dr Joss Reimer had a message for those who received that first dose. Over the last two months when they’ve been giving AstraZeneca it has protected many tens of thousands of Manitobans who would not otherwise have that protection.  If you got the vaccine you did the right thing, you provided yourselves and your families with protection as early as you possibly could.

They are also monitoring decisions on whether different types of vaccine can be used for second doses.  They are expecting people to be able to begin booking their second doses by May 22nd.
