New Cases of COVID-19 in Winnipeg Are Still Pushing the Manitoba Numbers Up.

Manitoba public health reported 498 new cases of COVID-19 this afternoon bringing the five day test positivity rate to 9.6 percent provincially and 11.3 percent in Winnipeg.  They also reported one additional death in the Southern health region.  Of the new cases 389 are in the Winnipeg region with much lower numbers in other regions including 17 in Northern health.

Deputy Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Jazz Atwal says 201 people are in hospital. He says rumors are circulating that there are more vaccinated people in ICU and hospitals due to COVID-19 but Manitoba’s data does not support this at all.  He explains case rates with severe outcomes are lower in those who are vaccinated and in contrast severe outcomes are increasing in unvaccinated individuals across all age groups but especially those in the ages of 50 to 69 and 70 to 79 and hospitalizations are rising in people under 40.

Atwal emphasized the need to get vaccinated and to follow recommended protocols.

It was also announced pop up clinic in Flin Flon May 13, 14,20 and 21 will now operate as walk in clinics with previously booked appointment still being honored.
