The Important Role of Volunteers is Being Recognized This Week.

This is Volunteer Week in Canada and the 20th Anniversary of the International Year of the Volunteer.  Manitoba Lieutenant Governor Janice Filmon and Saskatchewan’s Russ Merasty joined other Vice-Regal colleagues in a release saluting the millions of Canadian volunteers who bring life and energy to our country.

They note the theme this year is Our Past Our Future recognizing the growth and development of the volunteer sector and setting the tone for imagining and creating opportunities for the next twenty years.  They state volunteers simple word yes to serving their communities creates a world of possibilities.  The affirmation enables tens of thousands of projects and organizations to enhance life in Canada.  It opens the doors for millions of personal encounters that add joy and encouragement to Canadians and it creates opportunities for volunteers themselves to enjoy learning, growing and feeling deep satisfaction.
