The David Foster Foundation is looking to shine a spotlight on the importance of organ and tissue donation this month.

CEO Michael Ravenhill explains this is an especially vital issue for Canada as we have the lowest organ and tissue donor rates when compared with other developed countries.

Ravenhill adds the waiting list for organ and tissue transplants in Canada is lengthy. He says over 45 hundred Canadians are currently waiting for life saving organ transplants and each year upwards of about 16 hundred people are added to that wait list so you put it into perspective of those on the wait list the number of deaths work out be roughly five deaths per week and one death every 30 hours and in a country so blessed it just doesn’t need to happen, we can change those stats.

One organ donor can save up to eight lives and improve the quality of life for up to 75 people and it only takes two minutes to register.

Ravenhill encourages Manitobans to learn more about organ and tissue donation and consider becoming donors.
