Stricter Restrictions Have Been Presented in Manitoba to Control Increasing COVID-19 Numbers.

Manitoba Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin says new public health orders are being introduced to slow the spread of variants of concern and protect Manitobans and the health care system against the third wave. He says contact tracing shows increasing numbers of gatherings so new restrictions effective immediately will include gathering sizes so that includes a return to allowing only two designated individuals per household again with certain exceptions, they’re limiting outdoor gatherings on public and private property to ten people maximum, they’re reducing capacity at faith based and cultural gatherings to 25 percent or 50 people whichever is smaller, wedding and funeral gathering sizes are again reduced to ten.  He adds in addition orders affecting retail locations and malls will come into effect at midnight on Wednesday when the capacity limits will reduce from 50 percent to one third or a maximum of 333 patron whichever is lower and these orders will be in effect until May 12th.

Roussin reported 108 new cases of COVID-19 this afternoon with 63 in the Winnipeg region and only five in Northern health with numbers in the teens in other regions. No variants of concern numbers were released.
