A COVID Outbreak Was Declared at the Hospital in The Pas Over the Weekend While Cases Again Jumped in Saskatchewan.

Manitoba public health reported a total of 316 new cases of COVID-19 Friday to Monday bringing the five day test positivity rate to 5.1 percent.  They also reported three additional deaths with two in Winnipeg and one in Prairie Mountain region.  An outbreak was declared Saturday at St. Anthony’s Hospital Psychiatric Unit in The Pas.  Of the new cases 150 were in Winnipeg, 113 in Northern health and 38 in Prairie Mountain with lower numbers in other regions.  Nine active cases are reported in the Flin Flon, Snow Lake, Cranberry Portage, Sherridon district.  Of the total 34,487 reported cases in the province 1280 are considered active.  The total of screened or sequenced cases relative to the variants of concern is 270.

             

Meanwhile Saskatchewan health reported 974 new cases Friday to Monday bringing the seven day average of daily new cases to 218.  They also reported five additional deaths with two each in Regina and Saskatoon and one in South East zone. Of the new cases 461 were in Regina, 158 in Saskatoon, 91 in South East, 77 in South Central with lower numbers in other zones including 16 in Far North East. Of the total 34,763 reported cases 2202 are considered active. As of Sunday 2453 variants of concern have been identified by screening with the largest numbers in Regina with 1758, South Central 204, South East 195 and Saskatoon with 151with the Far North East reporting four.
