Fewer New Variant Cases Were Reported in Manitoba While Numbers Continue to go Up in Saskatchewan.

Manitoba public health reported 77 new cases of COVID-19 this afternoon bringing the five day test positivity rate to 4.3 percent.  They reported no additional deaths.  Of the new cases 43 are in the Winnipeg region and 27 in the Northern health region with single digits in other regions. They also reported 11 new screened or sequenced cases of variants of concern have been detected with one from Interlake Eastern, three from Southern and seven from Winnipeg health region. That brings the total number of screened or sequenced cases related to variants of concern to 250 after they found a correction in Monday’s numbers.  Of the total reported COVID cases 1197 are active, 31,921 individuals have recovered and 150 are in hospital with 31 in intensive care.

             

Meanwhile Saskatchewan health reported 164 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the seven day average of daily new cases to 201.  They also reported one death in the Central East zone. Of the new cases 91 are in Regina, 24 in Saskatoon and 20 in South Central with lower numbers in other zones including one in Far North East.  They also reported as of Monday 1575 variants of concern have been identified by screening with the larger numbers in Regina with 1298, 118 in South Central and 107 in the South East zone. Of the total 33,399 reported COVID cases 1942 are active and 31,023 have recovered.
