Funding for Affordable Housing is Coming to Flin Flon.

The Manitoba government is providing a total of 12 million dollars in grant funding to ten municipalities throughout the province to address housing needs of vulnerable Manitobans and help protect them through affordable housing initiatives.  The municipalities receiving funding in the north are Flin Flon, The Pas and Thompson.  Families Minister Rochelle Squires says this funding will enable and empower municipalities to help those who face barriers to housing in their communities.  She explains each municipality will determine how best to address housing affordability in their communities and will still be able to leverage additional sources of funding if desired.  She notes they know some groups are more likely to experience barriers to housing including Indigenous households, single parent families, new Canadians including refugees, youth led households, low income seniors and people with physical or intellectual disabilities.

Flin Flon Mayor Cal Huntley says they have received word they will received 421 thousand dollars and haven’t determined where it will be used yet.  He says they’ve always been looking at seniors housing so this could be seed money as they determine how to make it grow.
