This is Fraud Month Under the Theme Watch Out For Online Scams.

This year marks the 17th year for Fraud Month. This year the Competition Bureau is joining forces with the RCMP and the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre to increase the reach of the fight against online fraud in Canada.  They report from Canadian consumers to big corporations everyone is a potential target of fraud noting recent statistics show that last year Canadians lost over 106 million dollars to fraud, 62 million of which was related to online fraud.  The actual impact of fraud they add is likely much larger as the Centre estimates Canadians report only five percent of actual fraud cases.

Anyone who believes they have been contacted by a scammer, is aware of a scam or has become a victim is strongly encouraged to report it to authorities.  By reporting a scam authorities will be able to warn others which may limit it from spreading.
