The Manitoba Teachers Society is accepting nominations until Friday for their annual Young Humanitarian Awards. Their President Paul Olson explains any student who is in kindergarten to grade twelve in the public school system can be nominated and it’s an award that is meant to focus on the real purpose of public education. He says they obviously teach subjects and so on but this is also about helping people do good humanitarian work and look out for their fellow man and woman so it’s about helping parents and communities raise really fantastic adults.
Olson say past winners have done volunteer work or raised funds for injured friends, local food banks or women’s shelters. Nomination forms and details are available at schools or on their website www.mbteach.org.
