Health Care Workers are The Priority For the Start of the Vaccine Center in the North.

Manitoba public health reported 285 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend bringing the five day test positivity rate to 7.9 percent.  They also reported six additional deaths with three in the Southern region and one each in Winnipeg, Interlake Eastern and Northern health regions. Of the new cases 118 are in the Northern region, 74 in Winnipeg and 61 in Interlake Eastern with lower number in other regions.  The active cases in the Flin Flon, Snow Lake, Cranberry Portage, Sherridon district are listed at six.

On Friday the Medical Lead for the Vaccine Implementation Task Force outlined their priorities when the vaccine center opens in Thompson.  She explained with Thompson the eligibility is the same as the rest of the province and the goal there is to reach people who live far away from Winnipeg and Brandon where it’s not feasible to expect them to come to the other two Super Sites and so health care workers are the primary targets for Thompson, The Pas and Flin Flon but of course going forward when they have more supplies they will be expanding in the north like they are with the rest of the province as well.

Of the total 29,564 reported cases 3503 are considered active and 25,232 individuals have recovered. An outbreak has been declared over at the Lynn Lake Hospital.
