Information is available on the Importance of Breastfeeding.

This is National Breastfeeding Week running until October 7th.  The theme this year is Support Breastfeeding for a Healthier Planet.  Northern Health Region Public Health Nurse Ruth Unrau says breast milk is a natural, renewable food source without pollution, packaging and waste and raising awareness about the environmental impact of how infants are fed is crucial for the health of our planet.  She explains there are many ways that we can help promote and normalize it such as having workplace policies in place and encouraging public places to display the universal breastfeeding symbol.  She says you can help families succeed just by acknowledging when you see them breastfeeding, sharing community breastfeeding resources or just help a family out by bringing them a meal.

Unrau adds locally you can check out the Flin Flon Baby Friendly Initiative-BFI Committee Facebook page and post a breastfeeding post of yourself breastfeeding or of others showing ways to support breastfeeding and your name will be entered into a draw for a gift certificate.
