Awareness Can be Raised by Wearing an Orange Shirt.

Tomorrow is Orange Shirt Day which is an annual awareness day to honor Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools.  The Executive Director of the Orange Shirt Society Phyllis Webstad explains it’s important to commemorate Orange Shirt Day as Residential Schools operated in Canada from top to bottom left to right, there were Residential Schools and Day Schools all across Canada.  She says her story of losing her shirt was not unique, every survivor that attended those schools had their clothing taken away even though they may have taken a bath before they went they were still made to have a bath and given different clothes.  She added every survivor has a story and her story is a conversation starter to all aspects of Residential Schools across Canada.

Webstad encourages Canadians across the country to wear an orange shirt tomorrow to spread awareness and to honor residential school survivors.
