Two Care Homes in Winnipeg Report COVID-19 Cases While Saskatchewan Discourages Interprovincial travel.

Manitoba Public Health reported this afternoon 13 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified. However one case identified on August 30th was removed as it was determined to be from out of province.  Eight cases are in the Prairie Mountain Health region, four in the Winnipeg Health region and one in Southern Health.

Case investigations indicate two previously identified cases in health care workers in Winnipeg Region are linked to recent outbreaks with one in Fred Douglas Lodge and one at Beacon Hill Lodge Long Term Care Home.  While the risk is assessed as low they have initiated outbreak protocols in an abundance of caution.

Reported cases in Manitoba now total 1244 with 454 active and 776 recovered.

Saskatchewan Health reported this afternoon two new cases one each in the NorthWest and South Central Zones.  The total reported cases is 1624 with 29 active and 1571 people have recovered.  While Saskatchewan numbers are low and other western provinces are experiencing increased transmission they have cases linked to interprovincial travel. Public Health advises while essential interprovincial travel has always been permitted unnecessary trips should be avoided at this time.
