Flin Flon City Council has received a letter from Jane Robillard responding to a request from Mayor George Fontaine for concerns about seniors housing. She said she supports any initiative to secure some reasonable housing for seniors noting there is little accommodation available that is suitable for an older couple who require a two bedroom apartment. She also suggested a middle income housing unit would be great adding the old Flin Flon Hotel seems like a perfect place for seniors units as it is within walking distance of the clinic, hospital, pharmacy and a grocery store. The letter was referred to the committee of the whole Council.
Later in the meeting Mayor Fontaine noted one problem encountered in looking for sites for seniors housing or other development is parcels of land within the city’s boundaries are owned by the province and Council has been in discussion with the province on ways for the city to obtain ownership of this land.
