School Board Presents Budget

The Flin Flon School Board presented their budget plans at a public meeting last night.  The school division has a total budget of just over 13.2 million dollars for the 2013-14 school year, an increase of 2.9 percent over this years budget.

The Division received an increase of 2.8 percent or 218 thousand dollars over this year from the province.  The tax incentive grant was discontinued in 2012 but the province is providing the equivalent funding for 2013.

The mill rate on the school tax portion of the 2013 property tax will remain the same as that for 2011 and 2012.  The Division notes they will continue to maintain and improve classrooms and facilities in 2013-14 while maintaining a 3.05 percent surplus. Board Chair Murray Skeavington adds it’s a good budget as it allows them to do that without going to the taxpayers for more money.
