A pilot project has been launched with Tolko Industries to test the safety and economics of lengthening truck-trailer units hauling wood to the company’s plant in The Pas. During the pilot project, one truck will be allowed to carry a load 2.5 meters longer than currently permitted which gives the truck about 20 percent more load capacity. Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation’s Motor Carrier Division will monitor results of the month long project.
On average about 200 truckloads of round wood arrive at Tolko’s plant at The Pas each week.
