The North District Traffic Services has partnered with the Flin Flon Cranberry Portage RCMP detachment and Manitoba Conservation this winter to conduct snowmobile checks with both static and roving snowmobile patrols on area trails and lakes.
They report 58 off road vehicles have been checked. Six impaired drivers were detected resulting in sanctions involving either 24 hour or 90 day driving suspensions and in one case an operator is facing criminal code impaired driving charges. In addition six people were charged with operating an unregistered snow machine, one with operating without a valid licence, one open liquor charge and two fishermen were charged with fishing with a barbed hook.
The RCMP report patrols and checkpoints will continue in an effort to make area trails and lakes safe for all.
