An organization that offered accommodations for northern and rural Manitobans seeking medical care in Winnipeg will be shutting down.

A Port in the Storm states in a news release that it will close its doors July 31st after eight years due to lower occupancy rates at their building.

The statement adds that the operational model for A Port in the Storm became financially unsustainable, and they were unable to find a permanent space for their clients that was close to Winnipeg hospitals.

President and CEO Rob Elder says A Port in the Storm will work with all their clients who are staying with the organization for a longer term to ensure they have a place to stay before the closure.

Since it began operations in 2012, A Port in the Storm has housed more than a thousand people who were in Winnipeg for medical treatment.
