Concerns Were Discussed About Yard Sales and Summer Programs.

At their meeting last night Flin Flon City Council received a report on parks and recreation summer programs.  In light of COVID-19 they discussed concerns about opening up the parks and splash pads for activities especially in controlling how many kids will be attracted to the parks once they open.  They will request more information from the Director of Recreation on how programs will be run, how to ensure it can be done following provincial guidelines and can the programs be shut down if concerns are raised about safety.

Councilor Colleen McKee expressed concern for our more vulnerable citizens if parks are opened too soon asking if the city can put in place stricter guidelines than the province if needed. Mayor Cal Huntley said they have the ability to pass bylaws and if they want to go beyond those guidelines Council will discuss that but he feels the provincial guidelines are going well and we have to ensure everyone continues to follow them.

Council passed a resolution that yard and garage sales be prohibited in Flin Flon until further notice.  The resolution noted yard and garage sales tend to be hands on affairs involving mostly cash transactions and both can cause a threat of COVID-19.  Councilor Colleen McKee opposed the resolution.
