Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Chief Peter Beatty says they are taking action to protect their communities in Northern Saskatchewan from the spread of COVID-19. He explains in their communities they’ve been instituting road closures or the monitoring of people coming in to the community in hopes of slowing the spread. He says in Pelican Narrows, Deschambault they’re instituting that as well as in Southend their community north of Lac La Ronge and also in Denare Beach they are going to be restricting access the community there.
Beatty adds this is an effort the protect people in their communities which are overcrowded as well as the neighboring communities of Flin Flon, Creighton, Denare Beach and The Pas. He adds they are also following recommendations from the public health officer and delivering groceries to families staying at home who are not able to access groceries on their own.
