Millions of Batteries Continue to be Recycled.

The Flin Flon Recycling Center continues to collect dry cell batteries which are sent to Call 2 Recycle Canada for recycling.  Call 2 Recycle reports Canadians recycled almost 3 million kilograms of batteries last year which is an increase of nine percent over 2018 and a record for the organization.  Manitobans recycled 120 thousand kilograms which is an annual increase of 11 percent.  Flin Flon Recycling Center Administrator Deb Odegaard says battery recycling here continues to go well.  She says 2019 was a record year for batteries as they did 875 kilograms and in 2018 they did 655 so that’s 220 kilograms more and this includes all the household batteries, the dry cells, not automotive but anything from your computer battery to your smoke detector is what they recycle.

Call 2 Recycle says they ensure that these items which contain valuable resources are responsibly recycled to create new batteries and other products keeping potentially hazardous materials from entering the waste stream.
