As part of her summer tour in Northern Manitoba, NDP MP Niki Ashton visited Camp Morning Star on traditional Hollow Water territory in Manitoba. The purpose of the visit was to stand in solidarity with community members calling for proper consultation on a frack sand mine, the Wanipigow Silica Sand Extraction Project, on their land.
Ashton says residents must be given the full picture about the potential environmental and health risks. Their concerns and opposition to this project must be taken seriously.
Camp Morning Star was established in Hollow Water First Nation Traditional Territory in response to the proposed Wanipigow Silica Sand Extraction Project.
