A New Program is Training Workers for Hudbay Snow Lake.

Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister announced in Flin Flon yesterday a new initiative that is delivering industry specific training to Pimicikamak Cree Nation Cross Lake for employment opportunities with Hudbay in Snow Lake.  Hudbay Vice-President of the Manitoba Business Unit Robert Assabqui (assab key)  says their goal is to fill jobs at their operations with people from our northern communities and they look forward to welcoming the 12 new employees ten at Lalor Mine and two at the Stall Mill.

One of the trainees Dean Garrioch says he was looking for job opportunities and responded to a poster noting here we are today with hope and change within ourselves as we learn life skills so we have the means to provide the basic necessities of life for our children, our families and bring pride to our communities and we hope this continues so more like ourselves have the same opportunities.

The Northern Mining Sector is administering the training with Workplace Education Manitoba and University College of the North.  Manitoba is providing nearly 87 thousand dollars for the training with in kind support from Hudbay and Pimicikamak Cree Nation.
