New Support Programs Continue to be Introduced at the Local Food Bank.

At their 27th annual meeting yesterday the Lords Bounty Food Banks Distribution Chair Dennis Hydamaka reported a decrease in food distribution over their past year.  They experienced a 17 percent decrease in hampers distributed and an 8 percent decrease in the number of people fed with 1368 food hampers distributed to feed 2858 people.  He noted this is largely due to client visits being reduced to two per month instead of three. He added things have started to change with a record set last month with over 300 people fed up from around 220 they usually have per month.

The Board’s Alison Dallas reported they moved into their new permanent location on December 1st at 2 Hiawatha, the former St. Mary’s Church, and their goal is community involvement as they team up with other people and support groups.  Last month was their first month for these presentations, the first year of harvesting their community garden and they now prepare meals for special occasions such as Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving.
