Worker Safety Was Highlighted in the Manitoba Legislature Last Week.

Flin Flon MLA Tom Lindsey questioned the Minister of Growth, Enterprise and Trade Blaine Pedersen on a reduction in safety inspections and other measures in the workplace.  He stated the Pallister government eliminated the Department of Labor, they cut the Advisory Council on Workplace Health and Safety, they’re weakening acceptable exposure standards for chemicals and other standards and now Workplace Health and Safety inspections have fallen by sixty percent asking will the Minister reverse course and make investments to keep workers safe.

Pedersen replied they are targeting safety inspections against those who are most likely to have workplace accidents which he says is a far better system than trying to have as many safety inspections as we can with no real purpose.
