447 Homeowners Will See the Effects of a Provincial Tax Change.

At the Flin Flon City Council meeting last night Mayor Cal Huntley reported the province has made changes to the Manitoba Education Property Tax Credit effective January 1st.  It changes how the education property tax credit will be applied to residential homeowner’s property taxes as it will no longer be applied to municipal property taxes but will be applied to school taxes only.

Huntley added 1472 resident currently take part in the tax credit but 447 of those will no longer be able to apply the difference between their Tax Credit and their School Taxes to their Municipal Taxes and the minimum of 250 dollars has been removed. He notes residents assessed between 15 thousand and 72 thousand five hundred dollars will feel the impact of this change the most and any homeowners paying at least 7 hundred dollars in School Taxes will not seen a difference.
