Final Approval Has Been Given For a Cannabis Sales Area.

Flin Flon City Council passed on final reading last night a bylaw to establish the uptown commercial district as a zone for the permitted sale and distribution of recreational cannabis.  This bylaw will apply when sales become legal across the country in October and if a retail outlet is approved for Flin Flon.

Mayor Cal Huntley reported that Councilor Bill Hanson who could not attend last night’s meeting has advised them that he will not be seeking re-election this fall.  He has served 19 years on Council.

Councilor Ken Pawlachuk commented it is exciting news that the Churchill rail line and Port have been purchased by a consortium in which they have a share with repairs coming up for the rail line.  Mayor Huntley noted there is a federal government announcement coming up on Friday related to Churchill.

Mayor Huntley also commented he is impressed with the brand unveiled for Flin Flon by Travel Manitoba. He says Flin Flon The Water and The Wild really captures Flin Flon as when we do anything here especially with recreation we head for the water and we certainly have the wilderness.  He says they are excited with the tools they have been given and a group will be formed to see where to go with the brand in promoting the community.
