The Central Canada Film Group will be showing Barbara at the Hapnot Collegiate Theatre Thursday night. The group’s Colin Davis says Barbara is a German film from 2012 that was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival last month. He explains it’s about a woman living in East Germany in the 1980s when it was still one of the world’s most notorious surveillance societies. Barbara is a resourceful pediatrician who has been exiled to a rural underfunded hospital. She slowly warms to her colleagues but needs to be wary as one of them may be a government informant and she already has a lover in the West who is hatching a plan to spirit her away from the East.
Davis notes as this is an International Film Festival film they must charge ten dollars admission adding everyone is welcome Thursday night starting at 7:30 in the Hapnot Collegiate Theatre.
